Blackjack: A Love Affair In The Music Industry

In modern day times and days past, Blackjack has proven its staying power among singers and songwriters. Famous celebrities have consistently hovered around the well known tables of Vegas, seeking the thrill of a quick win and cursing over that inevitable loss. They keep coming back, perhaps the thrill of victory and crush of defeat inspire new musical avenues of exploration. Maybe gambling offers a welcome relief from the singer’s professional life.

The country music awards this year revealed more than just the most talented singers and song writers in that genre of music. It also revealed that many popular musicians harbor a passion for playing Blackjack and love to share their experiences with the game. The winners were more than willing to share some of their experiences and strategies, while the losers were a little less enthusiastic. A handful of successful gamblers offered their tales of victory to news reporter Alison Bonaguro.

Josh Kelley, a famous singer/songwriter who is married to actress Katherine Heigle, recounted winning $1,500 in fifteen minutes of play at one of the tables. He used his winnings to purchase a beautiful necklace for his wife. John Rich, another country music icon, plays Blackjack often. He recommended walking away from the table after a successful run. His strategy was to bet small amounts over a long period of time, rather than risking it all on one series. Rich used his winnings to purchase a new F-150.

Jake Owen and David Nail were willing to share some experiences as well. Owen prefers Blackjack to other card games, feeling more comfortable with the format. Owen recommends walking away from the table after a successful run of winning. He plans to use his winnings on purchasing something nice for his mother. Nail, on the other, hand credits his wife as having more luck at the tables. Nail stands back and lets his wife make all the money, which she promptly spends on shopping for clothes outside of the casino.

Regardless of how much one wins at the tables, it is hard to leave Nevada with the money, according to Justin Moore. He loves Blackjack and has sat down to play with Brad Paisley and Darius Rucker. Moore won $2,000 last year playing Blackjack, but has walked away from the table with a loss several times as well. It’s the uncertainty of outcome that keeps him coming back for more, win or lose.

Of course no discussion of Blackjack online would prove complete without mentioning historical legends Dean Martin, Frank Sinatra, and Tony Curtis. Each helped make Blackjack legendary and mythical through casino performances and big screen movies showcasing the romance of gambling success. Martin actually dealt Blackjack in backroom speakeasies during the 1920′s before launching his successful singing/acting career.

Win or lose, the tables will keep calling commoners and famous singers alike back for the promise of excitement and uncertainty.
